MicroDia 2019

22nd May 2019

TThe Portuguese Platform of BioImaging (PPBI) and the University of Algarve, through the Center for Biomedical Research, are organizing the MICRODay – 1st National Microscopy Day on May 22nd. This groundbreaking initiative aims to introduce microscopy to schools through guided demonstrations and encourage students to take this knowledge home.

The event is designed to promote the field of microscopy and spread awareness in biological sciences and bioimaging. MICRODay invites schools to visit PPBI nodes, where they can explore national microscopy units and participate in various activities.

In a society increasingly reliant on technology and scientific innovation, it is essential for citizens to understand the research happening around them. The event will highlight advancements in microscopy, emphasizing how “what we can see today is much more than what we could see 10 years ago… as if our eyes had, in just 10 years, undergone thousands of years of evolution.”

Activities for MICRODay will occur simultaneously across the country at PPBI nodes. Participating institutions include the Gulbenkian Institute of Science (IGC), the Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology (ITQB), Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon (FC-UL), CEDOC – Chronic Diseases, Champalimaud Foundation (FC), the Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM), the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC), University of Aveiro (iBiMED), University of Beira Interior (CICS-UBI), and i3S – Institute of Health Innovation and Research.

The PPBI – Portuguese Platform of Bioimaging is part of the National Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Strategic Interest (RNIE).
